Why Homeschool?

This is such a big question to so many. Why do you want to homeschool? Aren’t you worried he’ll be missing out? What about extra curricular activities and socialization? Can you handle teaching him?

My question is why send my child to school? Why give up the opportunity to educate, nurture and care for my son? Why not choose his curriculum to be centered from a Christian worldview? Why not be able to provide spiritual growth and the knowledge of God’s word along with academics? Why not give him the opportunities that a homeschool education can provide?

Unfortunately I think the real issue is that society sees sending your child to school for the majority of their waking hours not as a choice but just what you do.

If you look back in history this is not the way things used to be. Additionally, the Bible shows parents to be the primary educators for their children.

I could go on about the benefits of homeschooling, the things my son won’t be exposed to, etc. however this post isn’t about selling anyone on the idea of homeschooling. Hopefully it’s enlightening people to the idea that no matter what decision you make, you choose how and where your child will be educated.

But what about socialization...? I have full confidence that being involved in the community through church and extra curricular activities, among other things, will take care of his ability to socialize with others.

I hope your take away from this will be to think intentionally about how to raise your own children including their education.
